Bio
Visões Úteis (1994) is an artistic project based in Porto that moves between the boundaries of the performing arts. A collaborative, multidisciplinary, and authorial project, it produces itself through activities of creation, programming, research, training, and territorial development.
At Visões Úteis, the aesthetic project has always grown in harmony with a strong ethical motivation, in a constant reflection on the contemporary meaning of making art and theatre, which daily shapes working choices, sharpens the awareness of social and political responsibility towards surrounding communities, and demands the sharing of processes of reflection and the autonomy of contemporary art with the general public, and in particular with all those who live on the peripheries — whether of geography, gender, generation, culture, or ethnicity. A hallmark of this identity is the growing activity in the field of programming linked to territorial development, the transfer of knowledge between higher education institutions and performing arts professions, and various partnerships for creation, learning, and hosting, particularly within the European context.
The Artistic Direction is led by Carlos Costa, who shares project direction with Ana Vitorino, Inês de Carvalho, Joana Ferrão, João Martins, and Jorge Palinhos.
