APCEN — the Portuguese Association of Scenography — holds its V National Scenography Meeting in Montemor-o-Novo, with the intention of gathering in the south of the country all those who wish to debate the comprehensive notion of Scenography from the accumulated experience in the artistic, technical, and artisanal fields that relate to it in a more or less direct way. Founded in April 2012, APCEN's mission is to dignify the profession of the scenographer within the framework of the interdependence of the most diverse disciplines, transcending the very concept of a professional guild. It welcomes as Associates all those who recognise themselves in a practice that seeks to delimit its territory without separating itself from its margins. Thus, potential members also include costume designers, prop makers, researchers, students, or actors, performers, and directors who claim an important scenographic component in their activity. With this V National Scenography Meeting, APCEN remains deeply interested in reflecting on the practice of scenography with people who problematise an up-to-date discourse on processes and outcomes. Spaces of relation, symbolic spaces and spaces of permanent transition, scaling, telluric, archaic and contemporary — these will be our keywords for this Meeting in Montemor-o-Novo. We aspire to elevate the level of reflection and knowledge of this discipline in Portugal, in close collaboration with sister associations around the world.
