Exhibition "Gil Vicente. Portugal y España en los albores del teatro europeo" at the Museu Nacional del Teatro de Almagro. Organised by the Museu Nacional del Teatro de Almagro, in collaboration with the Portuguese Association of Scenography and the Museu Nacional do Teatro e da Dança de Portugal. At the end of the 15th century, Europe was undergoing a period of change in all areas. Renaissance or Humanism is the name of this new era. Monarchs and nobles, both in Portugal and Spain, promoted theatrical activity as true patrons. They placed at their service a series of creators with extraordinary knowledge of theatrical practice. The most important of all, Gil Vicente, wrote his works in Portuguese and Spanish and became a symbol of fraternity between the two cultures. This exhibition is an excellent opportunity to discover the Vicentine oeuvre and that of other contemporary authors, while also emphasising the relevance of his work today and how it has inspired other arts and artists. The exhibition brings together numerous works that highlight the close cultural relations between the countries of the Iberian Peninsula.
