Nuno Lucena

He was born in 1974 in Vila Nova de Gaia. He graduated in Stage Design from the Higher School of Music and Performing Arts in 2001. During his studies, he attended Hogsckolen in Bergen (Norway), where he specialised in children’s theatre. He completed his degree with distinction, having been awarded a Merit Scholarship from the IPP. He undertook research into Classical Italian Theatre Machinery. He was Technical Coordinator of the 22nd FITEI and was part of the stage machinery teams for the PONTI Festivals in 1999 and 2001 and for Circolando (2003–2006). He works as a puppet builder and puppeteer. As a set designer, he has collaborated on various theatre projects such as Panmixia (since 2008), Teatro das Beiras (2009), Teatro Arado (since 2009) and Napalm (2022), amongst others, as well as with directors such as Jaime C. Soares, José Carretas, João Paulo Costa, Mário Moutinho, Rui Melo and Thiago Arrais, amongst others. He has been conducting research into the development of a system for cataloguing and classifying performance venues in Portugal. He has been a lecturer in set design at the Porto School of Art (ESAP) since 2003 and a lecturer in Stage Design at the Soares dos Reis School of Art since 2006.
