Inês de Carvalho

Inês de Carvalho was born in Lisbon, spent time in London and Évora, and resides in Porto. She is interested in participatory modes and strategies that can mediate art and life; inspired by materialities, spaces, and the writing of the scenographic, her practice seeks to bring together research, creation, programming, and pedagogy in the visual and performing arts.

Inês de Carvalho was born in Lisbon, spent time in London and Évora, and resides in Porto. She is interested in participatory modes and strategies that can mediate art and life; inspired by materialities, spaces, and the writing of the scenographic, her practice seeks to bring together research, creation, programming, and pedagogy in the visual and performing arts.
She trained at ESTC (BA in Scenic Realisation of Performance, 1998), Slade School of Fine Art, UCL (MFA Theatre Design, 2000), and Universidade de Évora (MA Visual Arts/Intermedia, attended 2005-07). In the Theatre degree programme at Universidade do Minho, she teaches space and performance, and scenic workshop; she previously taught at the Performing Arts Department of Universidade de Évora and at ESE Jean Piaget. She is a trainer in artistic education and communication at IEFP and leads workshops nationally and internationally.
She exhibited at the WSD (Cardiff, 2013); is a member of the IFTR Scenography Working Group; was part of the APCEN curatorial team for Student Section IDBOX (PQ15) and HODO (PQ23), and coordinated PRAGA 19 (PQ19); a member of APCEN since its founding (2012), she has served on several boards, including a presidency; she was responsible for the conception and coordination of national and international conferences and publications.
She has been part of Visões Úteis since 2009 as a scenographer for theatre and performance, landscape and territories, in diverse participatory contexts; she directs creation and artistic mediation projects.
