HODO Catalog: The Resting Assembly PQ 23
This is the digital catalog that aims to gather in one place the multiple fragments of the HODO: Unique Journeys trip since its beginning in July '22 until the departure of the official Portuguese representation for the PQ23 - Student Exhibition, which takes place in Prague from June 7 to 18, '23, curated and produced by the Portuguese Association of Scenography, and commissioned and financed by the Directorate-General for the Arts. Its digital format allows it to continue to grow step by step with the events, to expand the strength of the process and the path taken. It allows for the accommodation of records of the continuation of the journey, not only of the HODO: The Resting Assembly experience in Prague, but also of the return trip and meetings to come, thus enhancing the inscription of future experiences and transformations.
Explosion and Expansion Catalog: PT at PQ and PQ in PT
This digital catalog was created following the XIII National Meeting of APCEN, under the theme Explosion and Expansion: PT at PQ and PQ in PT, which took place on October 9 and 10, 2021, at the National Museum of Theater and Dance. It fully presents the audiovisual records of all panels and round tables, as well as a video summary and photographs of the program's activities, complemented by the testimonies previously gathered for the booklet. This digital catalog is intended to be an archival and reference document for all those wishing to visit or revisit this moment, which was as singular and unique as it was diverse and collective.
Fragments Catalog: PQ 19 PROJECT
This catalog records APCEN's participation in the 2019 Prague Quadrennial (PQ19), under a 'go and return' concept aimed at projecting national scenography internationally and sharing the experiences upon returning to Portugal. The highlight of this edition is the tribute to Cristina Reis, a prominent figure in scenography in Portugal. Through the FRAGMENTS section, the original scale model designed by the scenographer in 2000 for the opera The English Cat (Teatro da Cornucópia) is exhibited. In the booklet, it is also possible to follow the Portuguese presence in other PQ Sections: in TALKS, with reflections by Inês de Carvalho and Sara Franqueira on identity and the transformation of scenic space; and in PQ STUDIO, with the participation of Inês Mota and Jorge Palinhos in training platforms and connecting with emerging artists.
ID (ENTITY) BOX Catalog: PQ 15 PROJECT
This catalog records the Official Portuguese Representation at the 2015 Prague Quadrennial (PQ15). Curated by APCEN, the curatorial project responded to the organization's spatial constraints with an aesthetic and political manifesto focused on the concept of ID BOX, exploring the relationships between identity and politics. In the COUNTRIES section, based on the creation of a physical replica of the room assigned in Prague, several scenographers designed individual, duo, or group interventions in video format. Concurrently, the STUDENTS section marks the first dedicated presence for visual arts, architecture, and design students in the Scenofest program through the UN-PACK TO GO project, which challenged students to scenographically intervene in CTT postal boxes. Coordinated by Marta Carreiras, Rui Francisco, and José Manuel Castanheira, this volume gathers theoretical essays, images, and biographies that witness the plurality of gestures and the strength of contemporary Portuguese scenography.
Portuguese Scenography Yearbook
This book constitutes the first Portuguese Scenography Yearbook, launched in 2014 by APCEN (Portuguese Association of Scenography) in partnership with the Caleidoscópio publishing house. Born in 2012 with the purpose of comprehensively dignifying and bringing together professionals in stage design and performance imagery, the Association gathers in this work an important documentary overview and a visual manifesto on the vitality of the discipline in the country. The yearbook traces the first years of the association, detailing its first six National Meetings promoted in a decentralized manner across Portuguese territory. Internationally, it traces the trajectory of Portuguese representations at the Prague Quadrennial since 1991, announcing APCEN's official commissioning for the 2015 edition, and includes an institutional message from its French counterpart, Union des Scénographes. The yearbook maps the biographical and artistic portfolio, technical sheets, and stage photographs of a plural body of associates — encompassing scenographers, costume designers, lighting designers, prop makers, and architects. Coordinated by José Manuel Castanheira, Marina Ferrándiz, Paulo Oliveira, and Sara Franqueira, the publication asserts itself as an indispensable critical tool for understanding the transformation of contemporary scenic space in Portugal.
